Hoffman Music
Hoffman's mistake
“Hoffman Music recommended rebuilding it first to get maximum resale value. I agreed. The agreed upon contract was that Hoffman Music would rebuild the instrument, sell it on consignment, take the cost of the rebuild, and their commission from the purchase price and send me a check for the remaining funds. This was a single transaction where there was no implied nor expected possibility that there could be a debt owed by me at the close of the transaction. A few months after dropping off the instrument I received a check from Hoffman Music. I deposited it in good faith that they had done their accounting as they said they would. Eight or nine months later I received a bill for the sum of $1391.36 to cover the cost of the rebuild of the instrument with no other explanation. I called and talked the the representative that wrote up the consignment agreement and he said that the accounting department had neglected to take out the cost of rebuilding the instrument out the the proceeds of the instrument sale. I protested the excessively long time it took for them to discover their error and my responsibility for covering the cost of their error. He said the manager would call me back the next day. I never heard from him. I did however get a bill a week later. I wrote a letter contesting the bill and asking for documentation demonstrating my financial liability for their accounting error. About a week laterI received another bill showing that I am 30 days overdue in paying the bill with interest on the balance is accruing monthly. Hoffman has been selling instruments on consignment for many years. When I cashed the check I had faith that with their experience and expertise that they would carry out due diligence in looking after their own economic interests in the accounting of the transaction and issuing of the check. Once "they" issued the check "they" determined the amount of my portion of the transaction setting the final closing amount. It is unfortunate if the amoun” -

A M Stereo and Video
Absolutely Terrible - Avoid at all costs!
“I emailed and was promised a free estimate. I brought up my units for repair this past Saturday, and I briefly talked with one of their technicians, an older gentleman who sluffed around and smoked with a scowl. I didn't want to drop off my units, quite frankly. When I arrived, I politely asked for a receipt acknowledging receipt of my materials, which are expensive and valuable to me. I received the impression that I was asking for too much, and felt like I was 'interrupting his break.' He did eventually concede to write on a business card that he received these 2 units, but it felt like I was greatly inconveniencing him. When I called back to receive my estimate (note: I myself had to call them; they don't call you back with the quote), the same man quoted me $25 for a cleaning and $189 for the repair of another unit. These units are cheaper to buy brand new, which is what I said I would elect to do. I told him also that I would not need the cleaning as I'll probably just elect to buy two new units, as I do cycle through these fairly often. The man scoffed at me and said, what, $25 is too much to pay for a cleaning? I told him no it wasn't, but that I'd made my choice and I'll probably just purchase two new items. He then suggested that the cleaning had already been done. I did not request any work to be done, only to receive the free estimate and then proceed based on cost. He cannot expect every single customer to come in ready to drop money on repairs/maintenance until they know what said repairs/maintenance will cost. I authorized no work on my units and signed nothing signifying that I was approving anything other than the free estimate I was told I would receive. At which point he responded quite gruffly, just come in and pick 'em up. My jaw dropped. I have never been treated so rudely as a customer, or even a potential customer. This is terrible customer service from this individual, and I am sorry I brought these to this company for repair based on the interaction I've received with this individual. Finally, when I went in today to pick up my units, he dropped them roughly on the counter and I asked if I needed to sign anything and he said GOODBYE. Unbelievable!!!!” -

Shaka Sound Incorporated
Unprofessional Amateurs
“I hired Shaka Sound on 3 different occasions. All 3 times they were more than 2 hours late showing up. This led to the events starting and running late. The personnel they supplied had negative attitudes and proved to be incompetent. There were numerous issues such as feedback, pops and crackles through the sound system, and just unpleasant sounding overall.\n\nI would never recommend Shaka Sound to anyone. I now use a different sound vendor for my events.”
